This compassionate play is the story of Alan Turing, who broke the code in two ways:
He cracked the German Enigma code used by the Germans to send secret orders to their

And also shattered the English code of sexual discretion with his homosexuality (for which he was arrested on a charge of gross indecency).
Hugh Whitemore's play, shifting back and forth in time, seeks to find a connection between the two events.

Opening Night

Well we certainly didn't expect anything like tonight's events when we all set out. You've heard the theatre tradition of wishing actors good luck by saying to them "break a leg". Well, I don't think anyone in BCP will be rushing to join this tradition after the sad news that Julie (playing Pat Green) broke her ankle tonight just two hours before curtain up. Sadly Julie was unable to join the rest of the team on Opening Night.
In true trooper tradition, Anne Bloor (having directed the play for the last three months) took to the stage with a script and did Julie's part.
Even so just short of 90 people were captivated by tonight's performance and ticket
sales for the rest of the week continue -
Our best wishes go to Julie in the hopes of a speedy recovery ... and we hope maybe, perhaps, fingers crossed to see her later in the week.

Bletchley Park was visited by a BCP delegation last Saturday 5 Apr. The Director, Anne Bloor with some members of the cast, crew were inspired by seeing the challenges that Alan Turing faced, the machines he had built and walking through the grounds where he completed is most famous work. A good day was had by all
